Volunteering With SDRO

How you can help

Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon is volunteer-driven and mission-focused. Our volunteers are the heart of our organization, and our goal is to provide a rewarding experience for you, including:

  • Making an impact and improving the lives of senior dogs.

  • Connecting with like-minded folks and creating lasting friendships.

  • Developing new skills and finding fulfillment while supporting senior dogs.

The Senior Dog Rescue of Oregon adoption team is operated entirely by our dedicated and experienced volunteer staff. Our greatest volunteer need is for Foster volunteers. Check out our Foster page for details!

 Volunteer FAQs

  • We welcome everyone to get involved, let us know your skills and experience and we will try to find a good fit for you! Our ideal volunteer will be able to commit to at least a year of service with SDRO. Since we do not have a shelter, there are limited opportunities to volunteer with dogs (unless you volunteer as a foster!)

  • The first step is to fill out an online application, which is emailed directly to a member of our volunteer staff. We will contact you shortly, generally within 1-2 days, but it could take a little longer if we are really busy. Think about what you want to and would be able to do for SDRO and share that information on the volunteer application.

  • We provide an orientation to all new volunteers that covers all the basics of our organization. Once you’ve completed an orientation, we’ll work to find a good fit for your interests. We are a volunteer-staffed organization and some positions require more commitment than others so it’s up to you how you’d like to be involved!

  • Volunteers will be asked to sign a liability waiver and agree to:

Show courtesy and respect towards fellow volunteers and the public.

Treat the volunteer responsibilities as a job where others are relying on them.

Show up on time, and be reliable and able to follow through on commitments.
